Recently I had a conversation with a friend about the importance of treating each interaction with another as a singular event. Communication becomes a point of intimate connection that has the potential to carry deep significance. Each connection forms a web that becomes the structure of one’s life. What we ultimately treasure is our relationships with others.
Making and using pots has come to symbolize the potential of a deeper connection with another person. Communication occurs through the hand and the body as we consume our food. In a certain way, the handmade pot is a subversive interjection into our lives. We slow down while sharing food and conversation and remember the ritualized nature of a meal. Relationships are renewed, the eye is rewarded, and the body is nourished. What can be better than that?
