All of the work is created jointly by Kimberly Wellman and Harry Welsch.
We are a husband and wife team, who have been making pottery together for 30 years. One of us will start a piece and many times the other will finish it. Kimberly has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State. Harry has a Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State and a Master of Fine Arts from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
We both enjoy the physical nature of the pottery making process from start to finish. Our work is high fired stoneware. It is fired in a reduction atmosphere in a gas kiln that is monitored from start to finish. We believe that a pot should be a dynamic thing and should reflect the movement of the potter s wheel. We glaze in a painterly fashion that many people see as landscapes or seascapes.
In our present work, we add handles of bamboo, rattan and cane that set our work apart from other potters. We believe that these materials bring another tactile experience to our work.
We have never had a separation of work and consider everything we make a joint effort. We hope our patrons get as much pleasure from our pieces as we have had in making them.
